Gwynfydd Gold Medal

The medal consits of one ounce of pure Welsh gold mined at Gwynfydd in Meirionethshire. It was designed and created by the goldsmith Rhiannon of Tregaron. The eisteddfod has presented three such medals - two from the Clogau goldmines were presented in 1985 and 1986 to the conductors of the winning Mixed and Cerdd Dant choirs respectively. In 1985 the winner was Wil Morus Jones conductor of Cor Godre'r Garth, and in 1986 the medal went to Alwena Roberts of Cor Merched y Garth. The prize was discontinued after 1987, so all three medal went to the PONTYPRIDD area.
