Eirlys Britton

Eirlys was born in Cardiff and educated at Bryntaf Welsh Primary School before moving on as one of the first pupils to Rhydfelen Bilingual Comprehensive at Pontypridd. After graduating in Drama at Trinity College, Carmarthen, she taught for four years at Heol y Celyn Primary School in Rhydyfelin not far from Nantgarw.

 

Following many accomplished perfomances with the Cardiff Urdd Center Drama Company she was offered and accepted the part of Beth Leyshon, now Beth James the headmistress, in the popular Welsh language T.V. series "Pobol y Cwm".

It was during here teaching years that she became interested in folk dancing and founded "Dawnswyr Nantgarw" in 1980 with school colleagues and parents.

In 1987, at the National Eisteddfod in Porthmadog, she won the coveted Gwynfynydd Gold Medal awarded to the choreographer of the best dancing group. Eirlys is also the tutor of the successful Cardiff Recitation Party and several individuals.
